Pre-Admission Information

At the Interventional Pain Center at Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver, we believe in the importance of patient education. Understanding your procedure and your pre- and post-procedure care is important.

Blood Thinning Medications

If you are currently on the following blood thinners a procedure cannot be performed: Coumadin, Warafin, Heparin, Lovenox, or Plavix. Please consult your Physician before stopping any blood thinning medications.

Stop taking Aspirin or medications containing Aspirin 5-7 days prior to the scheduled appointment.

Medications containing Aspirin

Alka-Seltzer Darvon Goody’s Powders
Anacin Doan’s Pills Kaopectate
BC Powders Ecotrin Pepto-Bismol
Bufferin Excedrin Percodan

Stop taking Vitamin E, Garlic, Gingko Biloba, and Ginseng 3 days prior to the scheduled appointment.

Stop taking Anti-inflammatory medications 3 days prior to the scheduled appointment. These include: Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, Naproxen, Daypro, Feldene, Vicoprofen, Voltaren (Diclofenac). Tylenol may be substituted for pain relief.

The following are OK to continue: Bextra, Celebrex, Tramadol, Ultram, Vicodin (Hydrocodone), Ultracet, Percocet, Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), Skelaxin and Ambien.

Daily Medication

Please continue daily medications that are not listed above to stop. These include: blood pressure, heart, thyroid, anti-seizure medications, etc.

Please bring inhalers with you if you have asthma or emphysema.

Please bring a list of your medications or bring your medication bottles.

Eating Restrictions

You may have a light meal up to 6 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. No greasy or heavy foods.

You may have clear liquids up to 2 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.

Examples of clear liquids include: water, fruit juices without pulp, carbonated beverages, clear tea and black coffee. No gum or mints.

Diabetics: No Breakfast- No Insulin or Diabetic Meds. Light breakfast- Take Insulin or Diabetic Meds.

Driving After the Procedure

A responsible adult must be available to drive you home after the procedure.

Reasons: The local anesthetic may cause numbness and the medications to help you relax during the procedure may make you drowsy.

Colds or Infections

If you have a cold or infection please call to reschedule your appointment.

Antibiotics

If you have been told by your physician to take antibiotics prior to dental or invasive procedures, please call to speak to a nurse at 303-363-5692.

MRI Films

New Patients must bring the MRI films on the first appointment. If there are new MRI films on a repeat appointment please bring them with you.

Procedure Arrival Time

Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
